xMule was an open-source, cross-platform peer-to-peer file-sharing client for Linux and BSD that served as a key, albeit short-lived, alternative to eMule on the eDonkey network in the early 2000s. Developed using wxWidgets for native performance, the project split from lMule following developer disputes and legal pressure from the RIAA before being superseded by aMule.
